Ques: Tell us about your childhood with your education and family?
Ans: My family background is Farmer cum - Businessman. Since childhood I have been passionately drawn towards anything creative especially Art. Painting has been my greatest passion and nobody in my family for generation tree has ever been remotely connected with art. An average student drawing class obviously was the one I enjoyed the most during my school life.
Ques: Where did you receive your formal art education?
Ans: I got my primary education in my home town, then went to Dhenkanal College, Ravenshaw College Cuttack, then keonjhar Govt. College for Higher studies. I have a masters degree in Political Science. so as you can see I have got no formal art education in art unless you include the single weekly Art class that I attended along with all my classmates up to 7th standard. I was devastated when I got to know there would be no drawing class after 7th grade. would be surprised to know I got to see my first color tube set at the age of 21. before that it was pencils and crayons all the way.
Ques: What are your greatest inspirations?
Ans: Nature has been my greatest source of Inspiration. have always been fascinated by myriad facets of Nature. Gurgling Water, Colorful Earth, Sky, Green Foliage, Twisted Trunks, Jagged Rocks. They all inspire me no end. I worship pristine nature. I am at peace with myself while I find myself bonding with Nature.
Ques: How do you manage to maintain the creative equilibrium between your Job and Paintings?
Ans: It has not been easy to maintain job and my passion. but I have got used to this. After almost two decades of being in the job and simultaneously nurturing my passion. I am at peace with this demanding task of balancing the two. who said success is a cakewalk. Excellence in any creative field demands perseverance and dingle minded devotion. and you cannot fault me on that count. I am highly focused when it comes to my art.
Ques: Why you choose Govt. job?
Ans: For people with background such as ours Govt. job, in those days was highly cherished ambition. I have always been highly self independent. I always wanted to earn my own livelihood, to earn my own money so that I could indulge myself by buying my cherished art materials. job gave me freedom in that way.
Ques: How long have you been creating digital paintings and which one was your First Painting?
Ans: I am more in to traditional for if Art making, Paint, Brush, Canvas etc. though I enjoy digital art and marvel at its immense possibilities in creative genre of art making. I can't recollect which was my first ever painting.
Ques: Do you think as compared to Indian Railway you had to seek a career within the Animation industry?
Ans: As a creative artist it would be a dream come true opportunity to earn from the kind of work you really are passionate about. I know Animation industry is huge and offers immense possibilities creativity wise and career wise. so why not if the money is good I would not mind even at this stage to switch over to Animation world. but painting will always remain dear to my heart. The satisfaction that I get when I touch the canvas with my paint-dipped brush is unparalleled.
Ques: Out of all projects you have done which one is your Favorite and why?
Ans: I do varied genre of art. I am comfortable in all media also. my Acrylics are as popular as my water colors or oil are. so can't pinpoint which art works are my favorites. I enjoy all my art works equally.
Ques: Who is your favorite painting artist and why?
Ans: Raja ravi verma, Leonardo Da Vinci, Sebastian Krugger, R. K. Laxman, I just adore them though I am inspired by many artists I have a special place for Raja Ravi Verma. He is the true blue Indian classic painter. I can stand and stare at his works for hours together. I am innate of Sebastian for his incredible caricatures, and also the great Laxman.
Ques: How do you choose the subject of your painting?
Ans: Subjects choose me to paint them rather than other way round. actually I prefer to paint something that owes its origin to nature. In most of my paintings you find facets of nature. Earth, Rock, Twisted Trunks, Vines. They form an integral part of my art. I am connected to and fascinated by nature and that subconsciously seep into my canvas I guess. So for me an art should be at peace with nature. An art should not only look good it should be more that. You should contain some sort of hidden message. May be not very obvious. Something esoteric. That should keep your interest level intact in a piece of art.
Ques: Do you have any Message you would like to say to our Readers?
Ans: Art make the world a beautiful place to live in, It has tremendous capacity to pacify fried nerves. It not only entertains us at an intellectual level but also make us better human beings. It ought to be nurtured among the younger generation. here is wishing great success to all the readers of Animation Carnival. Keep creating cheers.
