The big animation anniversary in Stuttgart! The Festival of Animated Film will take place for the 20th time at the end of April 2013. The festival offers a platform to directors, production companies and distributors to present their films as well as an opportunity for fans of animated film to watch and experience animated short and feature films over a period of six days. The festival, founded in 1982, has developed into an essential event for animation film in Germany and is regarded as one of the biggest and most important festivals for animated films around the world.

Embedded in the unique setting of the Schlossplatz, Stuttgart’s city centre, the open-air cinema adds a very special touch to the festival’s atmosphere. With the help of a big LED screen, animated short films and popular blockbusters can be screened midday making the Festival of Animated Film a real family event. In 2012, 80,000 visitors came to Stuttgart to watch around 1,000 films at the open-air location and in Stuttgart’s Innenstadtkinos – the centrally located cinemas – as well as in the nearby city of Ludwigsburg. For the first time, the popular children’s festival Tricks for Kids will take place at the spectacular location of the Mercedes-Benz Museum featuring interesting additional offers.

Artistic animation films and the support of young talent represent the core of the festival. The various competition programmes are endowed with prize money of more than 65,000 euro’s in total.
